May 2, 2014 Storytime: ROBOTS

This storytime was a great one to kick off our spring session. Some of the vocab words from the two stories listed below are: ROBOT, ALIEN, INVENTOR, UNIVERSE, PLANET. After reading our stories and singing songs with action, we made robots out of marshmallows and pretzel sticks  (and unwittingly practiced our fine motor skills). We focused on concepts of big, medium, and small in choosing our craft pieces: big marshmallows, medium marshmallows, and small marshmallows.

BOOKS:
boyandbot                                    threelittlealiens
Boy and Bot, by Ame Dyckman                           The Three Little Aliens and the Big Bad Robot,
by Margaret McNamara

SONGS:
I’m a Little Robot (TUNE: I’m a little teapot)
I’m a little robot, short and strong,
Here are my handles, just turn me on.
When I get all warmed up, watch me go.
Sometimes fast, sometimes slow.

The Lights On the Robot (TUNE: The wheels on the bus)
The lights on the robot blink on and off,
on and off, on and off.
The lights on the robot blink on and off,
all around the rocket ship
• The arms on the robot go up and down
• The dials on the robot turn left and right
• The legs go up and down
• The power on the robot powers down

Robot, Robot
Robot, robot, Turn around.
Robot, robot,Touch the ground.
Robot, robot, turn left and right.
Robot, robot, flash your lights.
Robot, robot, bloop and bleep.
Robot, robot, go to sleep.
