Help Out! Get Involved! Have a Great Time!

The Newbury Town Library needs volunteers! Volunteers play an important role here at the Library and are appreciated for giving so generously of their valuable time. They bring their rich experience, enthusiasm and knowledge, helping us gain new perspectives and forge links between our community and our collection.

Volunteers support tasks at the Library that would not otherwise be possible, or would not be completed for a considerable period of time.

Available Openings:

Shelving: 2-4 hours/week

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Shelve books, DVDs, CDs; organize magazines and newspapers; assist with upkeep/order of shelves; help retrieve items for Interlibrary Loan pull list.

Requirements: Knowledge of the alphabet, attention to detail, and some simple housekeeping skills. Library staff will train volunteers in use of the Dewey Decimal System. Volunteer may need to lift light to medium weights, e.g. books and audio-visual materials, and be able to push, bend, stretch, reach, lift and read book spines. Ability to arrange items in numerical and alphabetical order and work independently.

Adopt-a-Shelf Volunteer(s)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Adopt-a-Shelf workers agree to spend 1 hr/week monitoring a section of the Library’s shelving to keep books, tapes, magazines or videos/DVDs in order. This is ideal for a volunteer who cannot commit to a set schedule and needs flexible volunteer hours.

Requirements: Knowledge of the alphabet, attention to detail, and some simple housekeeping skills. Library staff will train volunteers in use of the Dewey Decimal System. Volunteer may need to lift light to medium weights, e.g. books or audio-visual materials, and be able to push, bend, stretch, reach, lift and read book spines. Ability to arrange items in numerical and alphabetical order and work independently.

Teen Volunteer(s):

We’re always looking for teens in grades 7 and up to volunteer and help with children’s programs, special events, and other library activities. And here is a way to get those community service hours in for school! We’d love to have you volunteer!
